Blackout Blinds for the Bedroom

Blackout Blinds for the Bedroom

People often ask me what type of blinds are going to give the maximum room darkening. The answer? There aren’t any blinds that offer a completely dark room the way blackout custom drapery do. With the opportunity to select from virtually thousands of fabrics, drapery offers style and function.

Looking for a more minimal look and not interested in drapery to darken the bedroom? Hunter Douglas has recently come out with a new product called a Solera Shade. They have a minimal light gap on the sides with only an eighth inch deduction. These shades were introduced to the blinds market with great results and this spring 2015 the ability to operate them as a top down bottom up shade made them even more popular. In a bedroom where privacy is a priority, having a blind that covers the lower part of the window is a great feature especially in a neighbourhood where homes are close together. The shades are a combination of a cellular shade and roman shade with large folds that pair well with large size windows. The blackout liner isn’t a metallic silver as with cell shades so the white tones remain crisp in colour.

The intense sun demands a semi opaque blind for daytime use and then blackout drapery to darken the room for sleeping. Whatever the need is, the options are endless in selecting the right window coverings. Having a professional to help sort through the options is well worth the time spent and eliminates the fear of getting it wrong!
