Top trends for window coverings in 2014

As fashion has evolved over the years so has interior design, and thank goodness for that! Much like we no longer sport bell bottoms, the rooms of our homes should no longer be adorned with outdated draperies.  The trends for 2014 are beautiful and modern, home decor is an expression of our personal style as much as it is an expression of our lifestyle and so in order to achieve a well dressed window one should stay current with what’s trending right now.

1) Layering

A term coined in fashion but making its way into the home is layering, is a big hit for 2014. To keep the overall look clean be sure to keep the palette consistent, blending colours rather than contrasting ones work best when you want to layer treatments. Any type of blind can be used under drapes for a layered look. For example drapes paired with Hunter Douglas Blinds.

2) Sheers

Sheers in dramatic colours is very elegant, as is combining two tones of sheers. Current sheers have subtle iridescence and are interwoven with unexpected materials, or have embossed or printed patterns or contemporary headings. Overall sheers are a beautiful option for softening the light in a room and creating a soft feeling.

Every fabric fantasy you ever applied to your wardrobe can be played out in your living room!

4) Banding

Vertical or horizontal banding is very popular and adds beautiful detailing and interest to any plain drape. You can add banding to good advantage if you want to add visual height or width to a space.

5) Roman Shades

Roman shades continue as a favourite for contemporary homes.  Who can resist their clean lines and the options for amazing patterns? You can also combine this trend with layering by adding drapes to your shades in a tasteful combination.
